Our Philosophy

FEEL AT HOME

“FEEL AT HOME” – more than just our slogan. It is the idea that inspired Kathrin Tewes when she opened the very first Coffee Fellows shop on Munich’s Leopoldstraße in 1999 – and it continues to guide everything we do today.

Coffee Fellows is meant to feel like a second home for our guests: a place where you feel comfortable, enjoy spending time with friends and family, and can savour excellent coffee and freshly prepared bagels.

Today, we bring this philosophy to life across more than 290 Coffee Fellows coffee shops and over 15 hotels. As a family-owned business, personal and genuine connections with people are particularly important to us.

A real home

Respect & Fairness

For us, this begins with respecting human rights and the dignity of every individual. Respect, integrity and treating one another as equals are not a matter of position or status, but the natural foundation of every relationship we build – with our guests, our employees and our partners alike.

Building on this foundation, fair working conditions are not an added benefit for us, but a basic requirement: fair wages, reliable working hours and a working environment free from discrimination. These principles apply to our own coffee shops and hotels as well as to our collaboration with our franchise partners. Because only those who feel safe and supported themselves can pass that feeling on to others. Our heart beats for outstanding coffee – and for the people who grow it.

Value chain

Because fair conditions throughout the entire value chain are important to us, we source our coffee beans according to certified standards. We see this commitment as part of our approach to responsible and sustainable sourcing.

We focus on regional and traceable supply chains for food and beverages and are increasingly setting more sustainable requirements for our suppliers when it comes to capital goods, building materials and consumables – for example, when it comes to furnishing and equipping our coffee shops and hotels.

We know that we have not yet reached our sustainability goals – and that is exactly what motivates us.

Environmental protection & Social

Environmental protection and ecological responsibility are not just promises to us; they are part of our everyday actions. At the heart of our commitment is our reforestation project in Malawi, through which we offset CO₂ emissions and actively contribute to climate protection. At our Coffee Fellows Hotels, we connect this idea with a simple but effective principle: guests who choose to skip daily room cleaning not only receive a drink at our Coffee Shop, but also give us the opportunity to plant new trees in Malawi for every cleaning saved, year after year. This way, a small gesture by our guests becomes part of a growing forest – turning environmental protection into a shared project between Coffee Fellows and everyone who feels at home with us.

For us, feeling at home also means taking social responsibility. We sponsor the Special Hockey national teams, supporting athletes with disabilities on their journey towards greater participation, inclusion and recognition. At our Coffee Fellows Hotels, we also create inclusive employment opportunities, because a true home is a place where everyone has a place – regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Through our reforestation project in Malawi and our partnership with Too Good To Go, we are also committed to socially sustainable development beyond our own walls. Wherever we can, we want to continue expanding this responsibility towards society, step by step.
